Summary: Future Medical Administrators could be created in West Dunbartonshire over the coming months to capitalise on the many job vacancies being advertised in the Healthcare Sector

Due to the success of last years training programmes, The Lennox Partnership (TLP) has again secured funding from both Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire and the European Social Fund to provide training for local unemployed residents or returners to the labour market wishing to access employment in an administration role within the Healthcare Sector.

The MEDICAL ADMINISTRATORS PROGRAMME is aimed at residents in the West Dunbartonshire area who have now decided to update their skills to enhance their employment prospects.

The programme, which will be managed by The Lennox Partnership, will again be delivered by Clydebank College, an arrangement which has produced excellent results over the past eight years in terms of achievement of qualifications and numbers securing employment.

The course comprises of a number of Scottish Qualifications Authority Modules covering Information Technology for Administrators, Presenting and Communicating Information, Medical Reception and Records, Medical Terminology, Medical Word Processing and Audio Typing which have been developed in consultation with employers in the various hospitals and health centres who have participated in the programme.

The programme is a 14 week programme which also includes a two week work placement to allow the trainees to put into practice the new skills which they have developed during the college based element of the programme.

TLP have a network of placements who participate in the programme including many of the local hospitals, health centres and G.P. practices.

Training will begin week commencing 10th September at Dumbarton Campus and 18th September at Clydebank College and run on a part time basis between 9.15am and 2.45pm 4 days per week.

Child-minding allowance will be paid in addition to travel costs and a daily meal allowance in order to reduce the barriers to participation for those with dependants.

In previous years over 75% of those who have completed the course have as a direct result secured employment with a small percentage going back for further training building on the skills and qualifications already achieved.
