The Community Training Project is an Intermediate Labour Market course delivered by The Lennox Partnership (TLP) on behalf of West Dunbartonshire Partnership. The project was funded by West Dunbartonshire Partnership, Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire Council Working for Families and match funded by the European Social Fund. The programme provided training, real work experience and a chance to participate in community activities for local unemployed residents or returners to the labour market wishing to access employment in Community Work.
The Community Training Project was aimed at residents in the West Dunbartonshire Partnership SIP areas who had decided to update their skills and qualifications to enhance their employment prospects within community work. Students completed a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in “Working with Communities”. It acts as a link between community learning initiatives and further education institutes in order to access further education courses for community activists who had been excluded from education through traditional routes. The project seeks to enhance and expand capacity building training locally to promote and support individuals into employment in Community Work within West Dunbartonshire.
The academic coursework was delivered by Cumbernauld College at Leven Valley Enterprise Centre, Dumbarton two days per week, two days were spent on a Work Placement and half a day per week on Personal Development and Job Search. The work placement was used to put into practice the new skills which had been developed during the college based element of the programme.
Project candidates were supported by WDC Working for Families project who covered full childcare costs for students who were lone parents or low income families.
Additional training was provided by partner agencies such as Ontowork and Inspire Training which included Thomas International, CV Preparation, Interview Techniques and Presentation Skills.
